Midwifery Care at Capital Health

Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) are registered nurses with a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing and certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).

CNMs can provide:
•    Prenatal care
•    Labor, delivery, and postpartum care
•    Gynecological services - annual exams, problem visits, contraceptive management including IUD and Nexplanon placement, STI testing, and menopausal care
•    Prescribe medication and order diagnostic tests such as mammograms and ultrasounds

CNMs in the hospital provide:
•    Safe, evidence-based care
•    Focus on informed decision-making
•    Natural, low intervention approach to labor and birth when appropriate
•    Support for patient’s preferences for pain management ranging from natural, medication free options to epidural, IV medication, and nitrous gas.

If the need for a higher level of care arises, such as the need for a cesarean birth, the CNM will collaborate with our OB/GYN physicians to provide you the safest care possible.

If you are interested in midwifery care, make an appointment with a CNM today, or discuss this option at your next visit.
